AIG Singapore and AAS Academy Introduce Online Driver Risk Assessment to Encourage Safer Driving and Reduce Insurance Premiums

Singapore, 3 May 2017 – AAS Academy, a wholly owned subsidiary of Automobile Association of Singapore, is offering an Online Driver Risk Assessment to AIG Asia Pacific Insurance Pte. Ltd. (AIG Singapore) customers, as part of a collective effort in Singapore. The initiative is the first industry collaboration that aims to reward safe drivers with insurance premium discounts.

According to data released by Traffic Police[1], accidents resulting in injuries rose from 8,058 in 2015 to 8,277 in 2016, the highest number over the past five years.

Mr Bernard Tay, President of the Automobile Association of Singapore, said, “As the voice of the motoring community, AA Singapore is an active advocate of road safety issues in Singapore. Although the overall road safety situation improved in 2016, the increase in number of accidents shows that more can be done to increase awareness of road safety. We believe we can help to cultivate better road safety habits with our new programme in partnership with AIG Singapore.”

The Online Driver Risk Assessment programme will help individuals identify their level of driving risk and understand measures they can take to protect themselves and other road users. Drivers are assessed based on four critical competencies – attitude, knowledge, concentration and observation, and hazard perception, and will be rated as high, medium or low risk according to their responses.

Participants who achieve a “low risk” rating score will be rewarded with a 15 per cent safe driver discount on their AIG Singapore vehicle insurance premium. Additionally, the first 100 participants who successfully attain the “low risk” rating will receive a free one-year AA Membership.

AIG Singapore customers who also download the AIG On the Go driving app will enjoy further discounts of up to an additional 15 per cent for safe driving scores, for a total 30 per cent saving on their vehicle insurance premium.

AIG Singapore’s Head of Auto Insurance, Mr Manik Bucha, said, “At the global and local levels, AIG has always been committed to creating safer roads for all users and this partnership with AA Singapore is another step towards encouraging safer driving habits amongst Singapore drivers. At the same time, we see this as a great opportunity to reward safe drivers by turning their good road safety habits into cost savings for their vehicle insurance premiums.

“Our recently launched AIG On the Go app also encourages safe driving by scoring a driver’s performance every time they get behind the wheel, and complements this latest initiative from AA Singapore to foster better road safety in Singapore.”
